New old find: Industrial Ecology

The 2004 INFORMS Practice conference had a session on industrial ecology by John Ehrenfeld, former Director of the MIT Program on Technology, Business and Environment. Among other things, he discussed “Examples of [IE’s] applicability to management science and operations management”.

There’s a journal of industrial ecology. It’s housed within the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (lots of good stuff there, though not specifically OR).

What is Industrial Ecology? It is a field that examines and aims to reduce the environmental impacts of human industrial practices and the goods they create. The aforementioned journal has a more complete definition.
