Green Logistics

Logistics has to do with managing the transport of goods or services from origin to destination. Green Logistics takes environmental concerns into consideration as well.

In the UK, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) (roughly equivalent to the NSF in the US) has recently established a large grant in O.R. spread across four universities called the LANCS Initiative. Green logistics is a major research area within the program. The site http://www.greenlogistics.org has more information about it including recent reports.

Obviously googling “green logistics” will turn up more on the topic. One interesting result that comes up is a chapter in a recent book The Geography of Transport Systems by Rodrigue (Hofstra), Slack and Comtois that delves into the inherent paradoxes in green logistics. See also this earlier post about this issue at the US Postal Service.
